The puzzles found in upcoming adventure Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris will dynamically adjust to the player count, Crystal Dynamics has revealed.

The system means that those who choose to play through the game in single-player or with fewer than 3 friends will still be able to progress through levels that would otherwise require the use of another character.

“Because co-op is such a focus for Temple of Osiris we made sure that the world would react accordingly depending on how many players are in the game at one time,” Crystal Dynamics explained in a new dev diary. “For example, when you add in your friends the puzzle might actually change dynamically. There could be more mirrors, more obstacles, more enemies to deal with.”

Up to four-players are supported in total.

Each of the four characters are split into two types: archaeologists Lara Croft and Carter Bell, who both have access to a torch and grapple; and Egyptian Gods Horus and Isis, who can take advantage of a protective shield and a magical staff to move objects.

Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris launches on PS4, Xbox One and PC on December 9.
