The UK’s top 100 best-selling boxed games of 2014 have been revealed – and there’s no prizes for guessing which three games proved to be the most popular.
As revealed by MCV, FIFA 15, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Grand Theft Auto 5 were the UK’s top three best-selling games last year, with new IPs Destiny and Watch Dogs following at numbers 4 and 5 respectively.
Minecraft: Xbox Edition follows at No.6, with 2013’s FIFA 14 coming in at No.7. Far Cry 4 follows at No.8 just ahead of Call of Duty: Ghosts, with Assassin’s Creed Unity coming in at No.10.
There are some other interesting stats to be found in the list, too, including the fact that DriveClub managed to outsell Forza Horizon 2 despite suffering a disastrous launch, and that the year’s first major PS4 exclusive Infamous: Second Son was outsold by Thief, Just Dance 2015 and The Crew.
DriveClub, in fact, was PS4’s best-selling exclusive.
Alien Isolation and Dragon Age Inquisition don’t appear to have fared too well, however, placing at No.34 and 35 respectively.
It’s also interesting to note that Far Cry 4 ended the year three places ahead of Assassin’s Creed: Unity. In 2012, Assassin’s Creed 3 was the third best-selling game of the year, with Far Cry 3 finishing four places behind it. Could Far Cry 4’s success re-align the IP as Ubisoft’s predominant franchise?
Note that the list only takes into account physical sales, meaning that digital sales aren’t counted.
