Dark Souls 3 has become Bandai Namco Entertainment America’s fastest-selling game of all time, and the most successful day-one launch in the publisher’s history.

While sales figures for the game have yet to be revealed, Bandai Namco says that the game achieved “incredibly strong first week sales”, leading to it breaking records within the company.

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe has not released the same statement, however, suggesting the game may not have broken publisher records this side of the pond. And there could be a key reason for that, too.

Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe published last year’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt across Europe, with Warner Bros picking up the rights in the US. It’s possible (although unconfirmed) that The Witcher 3 may have sold more units during its launch week than Dark Souls 3.

Nevertheless, Dark Souls 3 still managed to break records in the UK, becoming the fastest-selling game in the series so far and shooting straight to the top of the UK charts – the first game in the series to do so.

Dark Souls 3 launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC last Tuesday, April 12.
