Call of Duty has been recognised as the best-selling first-person shooter series of all time, having sold 188,900,000 units across all formats as of July 2014.

The figure does not include sales of this year’s Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare.

The series was also voted as the “Best Videogame Franchise” by readers of Guinness World Records Gamers Edition, which polled over 5,000 readers from across 140 countries.

Call of Duty debuted on PC in 2003 with 21 titles, expansions and spin-offs releasing in the years since. The latest game, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, went on sale across multiple platforms last week.

Advanced Warfare’s impressive first week sales led to it becoming the fifth fastest-selling Call of Duty title of all time.
