Early reviews of Bloodborne suggest Sony has a winner on its hands, with the game earning a place atop Metacritic as the highest-rated title available exclusively on current-gen platforms.

Reviews of From Software’s latest went live earlier this morning with critics already calling it “one of the best action games of the generation” and an “epic, compelling, heart-pounding triumph”. Our review-in-progress labelled it “the best game on PS4”.

The game currently has a 93 Metacritic rating. The only other new-gen titles to achieve a higher score are the current-gen remasters of Grand Theft Auto 5 and The Last of Us.

That said, it’s still early days, and there are still plenty of outlets yet to give the game a score. But if you’re thinking of picking up Miyazaki’s punishing action-RPG this week, it doesn’t look like you’ll be disappointed.

Bloodborne launches in the UK this Friday, March 27 exclusively on PS4.
