If you’ve found yourself falling prey to the time-constrained objectives in Zenless Zone Zero, this new mode supposedly being added might interest you. According to new leaks, ZZZ could be getting a new mode that sees you clear increasingly difficult fights to earn Polychrome.
The leakers refer to this as an “Abyss” mode, which is in reference to Genshin Impact’s Spiral Abyss which functions in a similar way. For Zenless, it appears this will be a new game mode within Shiyu Defence.
New Shiyu Defence mode won’t be tied to clear time
This information was initially shared on Twitter by reliable leaker @hxg_diluc, but someone on Reddit picked up the information regarding the new content coming in patch 1.1.
In the post, they shared screenshots of the leaker’s information, with the most notable addition being the following entry: “3. New Standard “Abyss”. A total of 8 floors. Each floor gives out 200 Polychrome. Should be a one-off reward. Ranking standard will no longer be time needed to clear, but the number of characters died. The less they die, the higher the rank. If no one gets killed, ranking will be S”.
Just remember that this information comes from a leak and is not confirmed by HoYoverse. It could well be true, but take it with a grain of salt. This addition will be huge, if true. There have been plenty of memes and frustration surrounding a lot of ZZZ content requiring you to clear things as fast as possible to get the best rank, but sometimes this doesn’t go as planned. The mode the leak is referring to appears to be Shiyu Defence. Check out the post below.
In the comments, people are praising and welcoming the change with open arms, with one person saying, “Not using times for S rank clears would be crazy”, while another commented: “If they’re giving S rank for simply clearing without dying you know it’s gonna be hard. That’s exactly the kind of content this game needs. Really hoping we get it as a repeating endgame mode along with the timed one”.
The general consensus here is that ZZZ needs to focus more on skill-based gameplay with its combat. This move would do exactly that, rewarding you for playing well and keeping your character alive. This is especially true when you consider there are no healers in the game at the moment, meaning HP loss is increasingly difficult to stay on top of. It could also lead to some interesting team meta with a focus on Defence characters if your aim is to survive instead of DPS race.
