XCOM 2 developer Firaxis Games has announced that Tactical Legacy Pack, a new DLC release for the critically acclaimed real-time strategy sequel, will launch as a free download for PC on October 9.

Touted as a 'gift to the fans,' the Tactical Legacy Pack will remain free to grab until December 3, and requires you to own both the vanilla version of XCOM 2 and the War of the Chosen expansion. It'll be sold for $7.99 once the free period has ended.

Interestingly, the new pack will bridge the gap between the original XCOM: Enemy Unknown and its sequel.

Writing in a post on the official XCOM website, Firaxis confirmed that players will be able to enjoy a boatload of fresh content, with new armour, game modes, maps, weapons, and more introduced in the Tactical Legacy Pack.

'It’s an honor to work besides so many talented and passionate developers to create something as special as XCOM 2: War of the Chosen – Tactical Legacy Pack, a content-rich DLC that not only celebrates the entire franchise but also says thank you to our fans. The halls of Firaxis were filled with excitement and steeped in nostalgia as we revisited and reimagined all the sights and sounds from the past decade of XCOM,' commented lead producer, Clint McCaul.

'I’m also super stoked for our fans to hear the all-new soundtrack inspired by the music from the original, XCOM: UFO Defense. It’s a perfect mix of creepy-meets-dark synthwave highlighted in Legacy Ops and breathes incredible new life into the campaign experience. I can’t wait for our fans to get their hands on this DLC!'

Photobooth is also getting buffed, with new images available including extra backgrounds, colours, and character poses to tinker with. You can also play the campaign with any track from XCOM: Enemy Unknown or the existing score, thanks to the new Soundtrack Selector.

There's even a new XCOM: UFO Defense-inspired soundtrack up for grabs if you fancy it. Check out the video below for more details.
