Xbox’s VP of Games Marketing has revealed that the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase will feature all in-game or in-engine footage for its first party titles.

Aaron Greenberg made the claim on his Twitter account, answering fans questions about the show. Responding to a fan comment asking for a CG reveal of an unannounced game, Greenberg said “None of our first party games in the show are full CG trailers. Everything is either in-game footage, in-engine footage, or in-game footage with some cinematics.”

It’s a claim that’s sure to please those growing tired of announcements with just names and logos, and wanting to see something tangible from Xbox. The company has had a habit in recent years announcing games so far in advance, that all there is to show is an idea or concept trailer with little gameplay – with some examples including The Outer Worlds 2 and Fable.

It’s not unusual for companies to show off trailers that give an idea of a game without much of the actual game of course – and the comment could be seen as a subtle dig at PlayStation’s recent showcase, where three of that show’s arguably biggest titles – FairGame$, Marathon and Metal Gear Solid Delta – all were announced with no gameplay, or in-engine looks, but rather just using CG trailers that gave us an idea of what to expect.

This year’s Xbox Games Showcase will be a vital one for Microsoft, given the company has a lot to prove following a rocky first party release in the form of the recent launch of Redfall. We’ll see what they have up their sleeve when the Showcase kicks off on Sunday evening. On that showcase, we’ve previously said that Xbox needs to own RPGs if it wants to get a foothold back in the game.
