The assumed and widely discussed performance advantage the PS4 has over the Xbox 360 isn’t actually a thing any more, Resident Evil and The Evil Within creator Shinji Mikami has told Edge.

“We only need one console. Why do I have to make two versions of a game?” said Mikami. “And when Xbox One was first announced it had lower specs than PS4, but now they’re almost identical.

“So either will do.”

This does go some way to support the message that Microsoft has been trying to get across for several months now.

The Evil Within is expected to launch next year for PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Whilst it would be good news for Xbox if its performance capabilities have been increased to be more in line with the PS4, Mikami doesn’t offer any evidence to back his claim.
