The only thing holding back the Xbox One from matching the sales of the PS4 is price, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter told an audience at the Game Monetization USA Summit in San Francisco.

“The reason Sony beats Microsoft is solely the price,” Pachter noted. “Microsoft loses the next generation unless they cut price. If Microsoft drops its price to $399, I expect the sales to be equal to the PS4.”

If PS4 continues to be the cheaper platform Pachter estimates sales of 100 to 120 million units for Sony’s console, and 90 to 110 million units for the Xbox One.

It’s hard to argue any different, especially given Microsoft has failed to convince consumers that Xbox One is good value for its price premium.
