The Game Awards 2024 took place last night, and Kuro Games was part of the event for Wuthering Waves. It has been an excellent debut year for WuWa, but 2025 is poised to be even better as the game is launching a new chapter while simultaneously joining PlayStation. Here is the Wuthering Waves update 2.0 release date for PS5, along with the confirmed new characters and massive leaks.

The only unfortunate news about WuWa on PS5 is that it is not also joining PS4 as originally planned. While that’s disappointing, it joining PlayStation consoles is great as the gacha experience is one of the best besides the holy trinity from Hoyoverse; Genshin Impact, Honkai Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. Ahead of its forthcoming success, Kuro Games have been snapped up by juggernaut, Tencent.

Fans have a lot to look forward to for Wuthering Waves next year, and it all starts with the release date for 2.0 and PS5. We are also getting two new playable characters, and there are a lot of exciting leaks.

Wuthering Waves 2.0 release date for PS5

The release date for Wuthering Waves 2.0 and PS5 is January 2nd. This was reaffirmed at The Game Awards 2024 in the form of a brand new trailer.

Update 2.0 is the perfect opportunity for PlayStation players to hop aboard the WuWa bandwagon as it is introducing an entirely new region for players to explore called Rinascita. The game does crossplay and cross-progression for PC and mobile devices, but it’s currently unknown if the same will be supported for PS5, but the assumption is that it likely will.

New characters

Similar to all other previous WuWa chapters, there will be two new playable characters to pull for in Wuthering Waves 2.0. One of the new characters is the highly-anticipated Carlotta.

Per Kuro Games, Carlotta is a 5-stars hero who “infuses the profound beauty of art into every strike, cradling radiant crystallites in her hands to deliver an elegant eulogy”. Like a flower, she blossoms then decays, and “her dance embodies a perfect harmony of passion and tranquillity”.

She is also “the second daughter of the esteemed Montelli family,” and she “embodies innate nobility and a refined appreciation for art”.

As for the other 5-stars newcomer, they are called Roccia. They were previously leaked as a “gothic” looking character with accurate details about their multi-colored hair and carnival-esque design.

She is a “gifted improvisational comedian and the First Mate of the Fool’s Troupe, known for her mastery of stage props”. She carries a “Peculiar Box” that houses “A cascade of confetti and ribbons in countless hues, dazzling Luceanites, and fireworks that light up the theater with joy”.
