Wuthering Waves was a great experience when it came out last year, and it has started 2025 with a lot of momentum thanks to its release on PS5 in conjunction with the launch of 2.0. It was already one of the more popular gacha experiences, but now Wuthering Waves has recorded a massive achievement on PS5, with it currently sitting only behind Genshin Impact.
Whether you’re a newcomer or someone who has been with WuWa since day one on PC and mobile, make sure to get all of the free rewards available during January 2025. The only unfortunate news about WuWa’s arrival on PS5 is that it hasn’t come out on PS4 as originally planned, but at least way more people still get to enjoy its excellence.
In addition, despite only coming out on PS5, Wuthering Waves has still recorded a massive achievement on the PSN store.
Wuthering Waves becomes second most popular gacha game on PS5
Following the release of Wuthering Waves on PS5, the game has skyrocketed near the top of the best sellers list on the PSN store. As noticed by Reddit user Rude_Peace_1980, WuWa has debuted as the second best seller on the PSN store in Japan, where it currently sits only behind Genshin Impact.
It’s currently the second most popular gacha game on PlayStation in Japan as it’s ahead of Zenless Zone Zero and Honkai Star Rail, both of which are from Hoyoverse, too.
Wuthering Waves isn’t quite as high up on the best sellers chart in other regions, but it’s still performing really well, and also claims its place as the second most popular gacha game behind Genshin Impact.
For the GB PSN store, Genshin Impact is seventh on the best selling list, meanwhile, WuWa is a respectable 20th. As for the US, Genshin Impact is currently 10th, while WuWa is 14th.
It will be interesting to see if the game will maintain its status as the second best selling gacha game on PlayStation. Kuro will find it difficult to keep pace with the juggernaut that is Genshin Impact, but right now its release on PS5 consoles has been a triumphant success.
