It’s currently unclear whether THQ Nordic and Purple Lamp Studios plan on porting their spiritual sequel to modern day systems. Based on the game’s mixed critical reception, however, it seems unlikely to happen as upgrading the game’s compatibility would most likely cost a significant amount of money.

On the other hand, player reception has largely been positive with most fans citing its original story and iconic references as some of its best features. THQ Nordic had also initially marketed it as a spiritual sequel to Battle for Bikini Bottom and it seems to be living up to that label. Even though a few minor issues have been found throughout the game, it seems that they are few and far between.

Hopefully, Purple Lamp Studios find a way to make the game available for current gen platforms to help it reach a wider audience. Though for the time being, it seems that Spongebob’s latest adventure can only be enjoyed by a select number of players.
