Epic’s Unreal Engine 4, the next-generation version of the hugely popular game engine, will not support Nintendo’s Wii U, according to SpikeTV host Geoff Keighley.

Posting on Twitter, Keighley responded to a question about Wii U’s ability to run Unreal Engine 4.

“No, at GDC Mike Capps said Wii-U will be Unreal Engine 3,” he Tweeted.

Much more on the Wii U and Unreal Engine 4 is promised for E3 next week.

If Wii U can’t run Unreal Engine 4 then what will this mean for third-party developed games in the future? Whilst teams will be happy to stick to Unreal Engine 3 in the short term, movement to the newer and more time efficient UE4 could see third-parties leaving Wii U support behind.
