Nintendo has announced the Holiday 2008 release of Wii Music, revealed with a live demo at its E3 2008 media briefing. The demo started with a drummer using the Wii Remote and Nunchuck – he was doing his own thing and not following a track set by the game.

Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director of Nintendo, then came on stage demoing a Wii Saxophone. He’s joined by the drummer, and other instruments to form a band.

In Wii Music there will be 50 instruments to play, including the violin, guitar, saxophone and a variety of percussion instruments. Drums have support for the Wii Balance Board to simulate foot pedals. This mode will be more simulation focused and will also offer lessons.

Up to four players can play together in a band, with the game recording the performance to view back once the performance is over. A live stage demo showed how anyone can come together and perform the Mario theme. It looks like you can do what ever you like and it doesn’t matter.

Look out for more on Wii Music later this week.
