Gabe ‘Gaben’ Newell has changed the entire games industry with both the creation of Half-Life and the creation of Steam. With Valve now in the best place its ever been in, the iconic game developer is relaxing, chillaxing and playing a whole bunch of games.
As it turns out, Gaben’s game of choice as of late has been GSC Game World’s Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. While the game has launched with a long list of issues, which the team is still working to address, the Valve founder has spent hours upon hours exploring the Zone.
Gabe Newell loves Stalker 2
In an email exchange with a fan shared on social media, Gabe Newell revealed his penchant for the survival game. Reddit user Walrus6444 boldly asked the icon of PC gaming: “Dear Mr Gaben, what games do you actually play?”
In the surprising response, Gaben said: “Lately I’ve been playing a bunch of Stalker 2. I should get the fourth ending tomorrow, and then I’ll have to figure out what I’m going to play next.”
With each playthrough of Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl taking around 35 hours just to sprint through the main story, it’s clear that Newell has spend hundreds of hours in the Zone. With no new game plus in the game, or even coming to the game, getting all four endings requires a significant time investment.
While Gabe Newell might be done with Stalker 2 for the time being, developer GSC Game World isn’t. With a roadmap of fixes in the works and plans for more accessible mod tools, the game still has a ways to go.
Additionally, GSC is already prepping for the game’s future expansions as well as planning to reintroduce cut content that was scrapped during development. Oh yeah, there’s also a multiplayer mode in the works!
