Popular livestreaming platform Twitch has announced its promised new lower regional pricing for subscriptions will come into effect in the UK and Europe this week.

As announced by the official Twitch UK & Ireland Twitter account, the UK will now only pay £3.99 GBP a month while those in Ireland will pay €3.99 EUR. Previously, viewers could support their favourite streamers and channels for a cost of £4.99 a month. The company also states in its article that Tier 2 and Tier 3 subs, which allow viewers to subscribe at higher levels, will also be adjusted accordingly.

Twitch first announced that it would start introducing regional pricing back in May of this year. To offset a potential loss in revenue, eligible creators will have any losses covered by 100% for the first three calendar months following the change. These incentive payments will then be reduced by 25% every three months over the subsequent 9 months until a full calendar year has passed from the price decrease. It’s hoped that the cheaper subscriptions will then more than equal out the revenue lost by a creator by encouraging more people to subscribe.

The streaming platform said of its prices: “There are two main reasons driving local price changes. First is that viewers have let us know they want to be able to support creators and help grow their favourite communities, no matter where they live. And second is that creators will benefit from the price reduction in the long-term as subscriptions become more affordable for viewers around the world.”
