Following an in-depth teaser during its recently concluded showcase, the Black Ops 6 campaign is shaping up to be one of the biggest in CoD’s recent history. Of course, a thrilling story mode is something many already expect since Treyarch has had over four years to develop every facet of the game. But we may be underestimating just how complex the upcoming campaign will be, especially after Treyarch devs revealed it would have a particular mission inspired by a highly popular Nintendo IP.

That’s according to a GamingTrend interview with Matt Scronce and Yale Miller, associate design director and director of production at Treyarch, respectively. In it, Scronce revealed that Black Ops 6 would have “a puzzle mission with Zelda’s dungeon-like qualities.” Now, this doesn’t mean you should expect it to feel exactly like something straight out of Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. However, its design should, at the very least, pose a challenge to even the most seasoned of CoD veterans.

Aside from a Zelda-esque puzzle mission, Scronce added that another equally popular game, Blizzard’s Diablo 4, also inspired Black Ops 6’s leveling trees. Although the devs didn’t reveal exactly what you could expect in terms of BO6’s progression system, you’ll most likely get to see plenty of branching options that’ll allow you to experiment with different builds and loadouts (if it’s anything like D4’s system, that is).

With all this in mind, Treyarch’s Black Ops 6 is gearing up to be one of the biggest and most polished entries in the series, especially since the devs also revealed it would introduce 12 new weapons “players have never seen before.” So, if you’re eager to start playing the game as soon as it drops, we recommend finding out when the Black Ops 6 release date will be beforehand.
