Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the second instalment in the soft reboot/prequel series of Transformers movies that began with 2018’s massively successful, Bumblebee, starring Hailee Steinfeld and John Cena.

Bumblee, which saw the Transformers series go back to its roots with an 80’s set adventure, opening with a spectacular final battle on the planet Cybertron showing the last days of the war between the heroic Autobots and the villainous Decepticons before the Autobots escaped to earth.

Then following classic and beloved Transformers character, Bumblebee, as he formed a bond with Steinfeld’s Charlie as together they helped stop the Decepticons from launching an invasion on Earth, before reuniting Bumblebee with his fellow Autobots.

Now, jumping ahead to the 90’s, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is set to follow the Autobots as they face a new threat to their existence that reveals new allies along with new enemies.

But, who are these new allies and enemies, and who is playing them along with our favourite Autobot heroes?

Who is playing the robot cast of Transformers Rise of the Beasts?

Autobots Voice Cast:

Optimus Prime – Peter Cullen

In Rise of the Beasts, Optimus Prime is once again played by Peter Cullen, the iconic voice actor who first breathed life into the heroic Autobot leader when the first ever Transformers episode aired in 1984. And, who has played Optimus in dozens of of iterations of the franchise over the last 38 years across television, movies, and videogames.

Such is the love for Cullen’s singular voice as Optimus, that when director Michael Bay sought to have another actor play Optimus for his first live-action Transformers movie in 2007. Fans across the globe came together online to voice their anger at this decision with threats to boycott the movie should anyone but Cullen be cast in the role. Such is the enduring power of his performance as Optimus that has touched the hearts of millions worldwide and inspired them to follow the character’s example.

Arcee – Liza Koshy

First introduced in 1986’s Transformers: The Movie, and last seen in Bumblebee, fan favourite, Arcee, makes her welcome return in Rise of the Beasts.

Voiced previously in Bumblebee and 2009’s Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen by iconic voice actress, Grey DeLisle. Arcee is set to be voiced in Rise of the Beasts by actress, presenter, and YouTube star, Liza Koshy, making her debut in the Transformers series.

Mirage – Pete Davidson

Another of the original generation of Transformers characters, Mirage makes his long awaited returned in Rise of the Beasts, sporting a look more akin to his original 1984 animation and toy design, after sporting a bright red appearance in 2011’s Transformers: Dark of the Moon.

Fans of the heroic Autobot can look forward to him, seemingly (based on the movie’s first trailer), playing a bigger role in Rise of the Beasts than he played in Dark of the Moon. Especially, as he is set to be voiced by by famed comedian, actor, and presenter, Pete Davidson.

Wheeljack – Cristo Fernández

Autobot scientist and trusted friend and ally of Optimus Prime and his fellow Autobot members, Wheeljack is another fan favourite character dating right back to the original animated series and toy line, and a character fans are sure to be happy to see on the big screen once more.

In Rise of the Beasts he is set to be played by Ted Lasso breakout Cristo Fernández.

Stratosphere – John DiMaggio

A relatively new character compared to his Autobot compatriots. Stratosphere has the ability to transform into a large cargo plane, making him invaluable when the Autobots need to get several warriors to a location quickly.

In Rise of the Beasts, he is set to be played by iconic voice actor, John DiMaggio, in his latest of several Transformers franchise voice roles, beginning with voicing Sideways, and William Lennox, for 2009’s videogame tie-in to Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Maximals Voice Cast:

Optimus Primal – Ron Perlman

First introduced in 1996’s Beast Wars: Transformers. Optimus Primal, as his name implies, is the leader of the heroic Maximals, a race of Cybertonian Transformers who, unlike their Autobot counterparts, take the forms of animals rather than vehicles when they transform.

Originally played by celebrated voice actor, Garry Chalk, who, like Peter Cullen before him with Optimus Prime, would both breathe life into the honourable Maximal leader and define the character for generations of fans.

In Rise of the Beasts, Primal is set to be played by beloved Hollywood veteran, Ron Perlman, reprising the role once more after first playing Primal in 2018’s Transfomers: Power of the Primes.

Airazor – Michelle Yeoh

Joining Perlman, is fellow Hollywood veteran and celebrated actress, Michelle Yeoh, who has been enjoying a great 2022 with critical and commercial hit, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and a starring role in Netflix’s upcoming The Witcher prequel The Witcher: Blood Omen.

In Rise of the Beasts, Yeoh is set to play the Maximal’s air combat specialist, Airazor.

Rhinox – David Sobolov

The ever dependable and wise Rhinox, a key member of the Maximals in the original Beast Wars animated series and toy line makes his live action debut in Rise of the Beasts, played by fan favourite voice actor, David Sobolov.

Terrorcons Voice Cast:

Scourge – Peter Dinklage

Traditionally, the right hand and most loyal warrior of the evil Galvatron (the reborn form of Megatron), it appears that for Rise of the Beasts, Scourge is either getting a new character backstory, or is a brand new character entirely.

Played in Rise by emmy award winning Game of Thrones alum, Peter Dinklage. Scourge is set to be the main antagonist and threat of the movie that brings the Autobots and Maximals together. But, given Scourge’s background in Transformers history, is he the real threat, or merely the herald of an even greater threat?

Decepticons Voice Cast:

Nightbird – Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez

Nightbird in Transformers lore is a human created robot that often aligns herself with the villainous Decepticons, and although it’s not been confirmed, yet. It is entirely plausible that we will see Nightbird created by an early iteration of N.E.S.T. as a human aligned robot that instead turns on her creators.

Nightbird is set to be played in Rise of the Beasts by Michaela Jaé (MJ) Rodriguez.

Battletrap – David Sobolov

The second of the possible Decepticon characters revealed for the movie so far (at the time of writing) and the second voice performance in the movie for veteran voice actor, David Sobolov, who is also playing the heroic Maximal, Rhinox.

Unknown Robot Faction Voice Cast:

Reek – Tobe Nwigwe

Not much is known at the moment about Reek other than that they will be voiced by Tobe Nwigwe.
