The colourful platformer from Sony returns this August as Tomba! Special Edition. What to expect from Tomba! Special Edition’s gameplay
In an interview with PlayStation, Tomba’s creator Tokuro Fujiwara noted that it’s a platformer that “runs on 3D technology, with gameplay designed around 2D principles. This is why it’s described as a 2.5D game.” Despite having linear levels, the game offers an open-world feel thanks to its quests and secret areas. You can even skip some main objectives as you fight your way through nefarious pigs. Created in 1997 by Whoopee Camp, the new Special Edition features several improvements thanks to the Carbon Engine that allows it to run on platforms outside PlayStation for the first time.
New features in Tomba! Special Edition
While we don’t have a clear picture of what improvements the new version will bring, expect plenty of them in the quality-of-life department. These include a save-anywhere system, a rewind option, an analog control toggle, and a museum packed with new dev documents and manuals. It’s also got a brand-new remastered soundtrack.
