Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap, the HD remake of 1989 platformer Wonder Boy 3, will feature what is probably the coolest and at the same time most pointless feature ever.
Developer Lizardcube has revealed that the upcoming PS4, Xbox One, PC and Switch remake will accept game save passwords generated from the original Master System and Game Gear editions. Mind Blown.
Furthermore, the remake will be able to generate new passwords that can be entered into the original games, picking up your progress. This is a form of cross-save spanning almost 30 years.
The game has also been confirmed to offer instant switching between the beautiful HD remastered visuals/audio and the original 8-bit versions, including mix and match options.
“You will able to change between 1989 retro graphics and 2017 modern animated graphics anytime, anywhere, at the press of a single button,” says developer Lizardcube.
“You will able to change between 1989 retro music/sfx and 2017 modern music/sfx anytime, anywhere, at the press of a single button!
“You can mix and match: retro graphics + modern audio, modern graphics + retro audio. You can also can mix and match modern music + retro sound effect or vice-versa.”
The only change from the original is that the new retro mode runs in widescreen at 60 frames per second, not 4:3 at 25/30.
Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap will launch this spring.
