Sony's Uncharted movie has hired the latest in a long line of directors, with 10 Cloverfield Lane's Dan Trachtenberg set to helm the action-adventure flick based on Naughty Dog's hit PlayStation-exclusive franchise.

The news comes not long after the departure of Shawn Levy, who jumped ship to work on Free Guy. Trachtenberg coming on board is obviously good news, although we wouldn't get too excited yet as the project has been in development hell for nearly a decade.

The Uncharted film is taking the form of a prequel tale recalling the meeting between Nathan Drake and future mentor, Victor 'Sully' Sullivan. It'll star Tom Holland as the cheeky fortune hunter, although that's about all we know at the moment.

Production on the film depends on when Holland is available, given his commitments to Spider-Man: Far From Home, but it is hoped things will kick off at the end of the year.
