Episode one is now in the books for those in the UK and night owls able to stay up elsewhere. Not to worry if you’ve not caught it though – as it’ll be shown again at the UK friendly time of 9PM (GMT) on Sky Atlantic. It’s also available on NowTV and Sky’s on demand services, if you can’t wait until then to check it out.

After the broadcast, series creator Neil Druckmann tweeted the following message to thank fans for their support.

02/11/2022:

‘The Last of Us’ creators, Naughty Dog, have confirmed in the below tweet revealing the first official poster for the TV adaptation of their seminal videogame, that the series will debut on HBO Max on January 15th 2023:

This was then followed by the below tweet from Sky TV confirming that the series will debut exclusively in the UK and Ireland on their service on 16th January 2023:

In addition, as the series is debuting on Sky TV on 16th January, it feels safe to assume that this is because the debut episode and subsequent episodes will air at the equivalent time in the UK and Ireland as they air in the USA on HBO Max. An airing strategy that Sky famously employed for the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’.

12/10/2022:

In a sweet message on his official Twitter account, Gabriel Luna (who plays Joel’s brother, Tommy, in the series), has recalled playing music with Bella Ramsey (who plays Ellie in the series), presumably, in between takes shooting the series’ first season:

HBO Max have just released a brand new trailer for their upcoming releases ending with our exciting first look at ‘The Last Of Us’.

If you click on the video above, it’s been set to go straight to the first look at this teaser for the series (timestamp: 01:43) which begins with Joel (played by Pedro Pascal – Game Of Thrones, Narcos, The Mandalorian) and Ellie (played by Bella Ramsey – Game of Thrones, The Worst Witch, His Dark Materials) walking up to and then across a snow covered bridge.

This is then followed by a quick glimpse of Joel and Ellie in an abandoned building as Joel teaches Ellie how to hold a 9mm pistol.

Followed by shots of Joel carrying a young girl (played by Marlene Grace Becker, listed on IMDB as “Infected girl”, not Joel’s daughter Sarah, who is listed as being played by Nico Parker) as he runs with her first down a street and then into a shop.

The trailer then cuts to a shot of Joel speaking, presumably to Ellie, whose voiceover can be heard up to this point stating that everyone she has cared for has either died or left her.

As Joel replies “You have no idea what loss is”.

Next we see a quick glimpse of Ellie examining a knife by torch light, followed by Ellie running as she fires a pistol behind her (likely the one Joel was showing her how to hold).

We then see Ellie pushing a vehicle wing mirror into place revealing Joel sitting beside her looking at her exasperatedly.

Before revealing Nick Offerman’s (Parks and Recreation, Fargo, Pam and Tommy) Bill removing a gas mask, followed by the final shot, revealing the Cordyceps fungus snaking up a concrete wall.

11/08/2022:

Four more characters who’ll be a part of ‘The Last of Us’ HBO TV series have been announced and revealed, including brothers Henry and Sam.

As per IGN, Lamar Johnson will take on the role of the older brother Henry. The younger Sam, meanwhile, will be played by Keivonn Woodard.

Those familiar with the games may remember the pair meet Joel and Ellie in Pittsburgh as they evade human hunters. One of the first changes the TV show is making is switching that out to Kansas City instead, though there’s not much more plot detail than that on their appearance.

We don’t want to spoil what they go through in the game, so we won’t do that here. However, presumably their journey in the TV series will be just as dramatic.

Along with those two, Naughty Dog has also confirmed a couple of brand new characters exclusive to the TV show. Marlon and Florence are described as “a married couple living along in the wilderness of post-apocalyptic Wyoming.” They’ll be played by Graham Greene and Elaine Miles, respectively.

‘The Last of Us’ HBO show release date?

Update – 02/11/2022:

HBO Max have confirmed that the show will debut on January 15th 2023.

Original Text:

No official announcement has been made so far of a release date for ‘The Last of Us’ HBO TV show. Filming has already wrapped however, starting in June 2021 and finishing up in June 2022.

Presumably then, the team will be hard at work in the edit suites as we speak, assembling the filmed episodes. Of course, there’s been a bit of upheaval of late as Warner Bros Discovery’s new CEO has been causing quite a bit of drama. As a result, it seems HBO Max and Discovery Plus may be in line for a merger.

However, as far as we can tell, this doesn’t seem to have effected ‘The Last of Us’ HBO show at the time of writing. So, unless something major changes, we predict we’ll still see the show premiere in early 2023.
