The First Descendant fans have a lot to anticipate between now and the end of the year. In just under two weeks we are getting the second half of Season 1, and in December we will be treated to the start of Season 2. TFD has significantly grown and improved since its launch in July, and a new interview reveals Nexon’s exciting plans for The First Descendant Season 2 and beyond.

As for the near future, Ultimate Freyna is coming out on October 10th. She will be accompanied by a new boss fight, and Nexon has confirmed we can also expect some Halloween skins. In addition, TFD is part of the PS5 Pro enhanced games library, and its’ upgrade includes enhanced ray tracing.

While the October 10th update should be fantastic, Nexon has a lot more exciting plans for The First Descendant.

New The First Descendant interview

During TGS on September 29th, The First Descendant developer, Nexon, conducted an interview with IGN Japan. You can watch the interview which begins at 3:13:00.

A translation of the dev Q&A at TGS has been shared on the game’s official subreddit by OP im_vasco. This goes over some of the important questions with fully translated answers.

Nexon were asked a few times about player feedback in regard to skins and gameplay. For skins, the developer said, “While the reception has been positive, the high expectations have also brought challenges. We’ve received some harsh feedback, and we’ve been working on how to address those criticisms”.

The developer also discussed the feedback they have received over farming. Nexon said, “There’s been a lot of commentary on this, and we’re focusing on two main areas: First, we want to make the farming process easier to learn and streamline it, since farming is currently spread across multiple areas. Second, we’re working on systems to support players who struggle with the randomness of farming, such as enhancing drop rates”.

Nexon further explained, “We’re also looking into improving critical-hit-focused balancing and making different builds more viable. For example, we’re planning to introduce content that allows for skill-based builds to shine, in addition to critical-based ones”.

The developer also discussed their plans for the October 10th update. After acknowledging puzzle-based mechanics were a bad choice, the developer said, “We’re designing new battles with more diverse monsters… For example, the update scheduled for October 10th will introduce the ‘400% Invasion Operation’ with waves of monsters. This content won’t rely on penalties but will instead take advantage of elemental bonuses, making it enjoyable for both advanced and growing characters. We’re also revising the new defense missions to focus on intuitive mechanics”.

Fans have asked for harder content, and Nexon has declared “In Season 2, we plan to introduce new endgame content, including a harder difficulty for special operations and higher difficulty levels for intercept missions”.

Lastly,  “The development team is exploring ways to transfer part of a standard character’s progression to the ultimate version, though we don’t have specific details or a timeline yet”. And, in response to the whereabouts of the trading system, Nexon stated that it’s still happening but they “want to focus on improving individual farming environments and offering better ways for players to spend excess resources” before implementing trading.
