Nexon’s free-to-play looter shooter The First Descendant is gearing up for Season 2. Alongside the arrival of new heroes, content and skins, the game will also see major rebalancing across the board with special attention being paid to some of the game’s more underwhelming characters.

The First Descendant promises to fix bad characters

Revealed as part of the team’s three-hour long “dev preview” for Season 2 Void Chaster, the team revealed that they will be performing a major balance sweep across the board. Some overpowered characters and weapons may be nerfed, but the focus is on improving the game’s lesser-used, underwhelming heroes.

The developers revealed that particular focus is being paid to Viessa, Valby, Jayber, Luna and Sharen, and the characters’ improvements won’t just be buffs via numeric changes. Instead, the studio wants to make sure character reworks are actual gameplay improvements with reworked moves and styles.

“For the Season 2 update, we focused on Descendants that are generally underperforming in the game,” the developers said. “It doesn’t just end there. In the second update for the game in January, we are turning things around for these Descendants.”

The First Descendant players will be able to experience some of these improved characters in January, but this isn’t the end of massive reworks. With Season 2 and beyond, the team is looking to make each character satisfying for players with continuous reworks.

“It won’t be just about changing the stats, we will change the overall performance and modify the playstyles. After the reworks of these Descendants we will continue to rebalance… it’s not just about reworking particular Descendants but we are continually analysing the data and collecting player feedback.”

Weapons are changing, too

Alongside the new character changes, The First Descendant will also make huge adjustments to weapons in Season 2. Just like characters, these won’t be simple stat changes to affect damage and accuracy, but proper reworks to make weapons feel better.

In the dev diary, Nexon explained that this will include reworks of effects and components as well as altering penalties. For example, Ultimate Weapons in the game will no longer have penalties at Level 1.
