Ted Lasso is playable in FIFA 23

Following yesterday’s tease, EA have officially announced that Ted Lasso has landed in FIFA 23.

Fans of the fictional AFC Richmond will be able to control the team in Career Mode, Kickoff, Online Friendlies, and Online Seasons. This a feature sure to invite a whole new crowd to EA Sport’s FIFA 23, as the Apple TV+ show has already done a great job at driving American fans to the sport which they know as soccer.

Alongside taking the helm of the team as Ted Lasso, his players (Roy Kent, Jamie Tartt, Sam Obisanya, and Dani Rojas) are all playable in the different game modes offered by FIFA 23.

Starring Ian Wright, Wayne Rooney, and Jack Grealish alongside Jason Sudeikis and Brett Goldstein, the official trailer for Ted Lasso’s dive into FIFA 23 is here.

Will Ted Lasso be in Ultimate Team?

Yes. Ted Lasso is in Ultimate Team. Alongside AFC Richmond kits, manager items, and tifos, the stadium will also be available. Perhaps the most important addition are the unlockable Ted Lasso Coach Beard items: the source of all Ted Lasso’s coaching power.

In order to unlock these items, all players can engage in challenges and objectives with the end goal of Ted Lasso related rewards.

Nothing has been confirmed if the AFC Richmond squad is playable as Ultimate Team cards

Is Ted Lasso in Career Mode?

Our earlier prediction that Ted Lasso is a playable manager in Career Mode has proven true, as EA have now confirmed that both the manager, and his team, are available in their respective Career Modes.

Who can access Ted Lasso content?

Ted Lasso is a part of the core game, so nobody will miss out. This means he’s not an early access / pre-order exclusive, and that all items are unlockable through challenges and set objectives.

*End of Update*

The official Ted Lasso show account tweeted a photo of Jason Sudeikis having his facial profile scanned in 3D. The tweet implies that it’s for a game, and then the EA Sports FIFA account replies with a tweet of their, all but sealing the confirmation that Ted Lasso will have some involvement with FIFA 23.

Though there is no official confirmation, the tweet from EA suggests a relationship between Apple TV’s football show and the latest rendition of the FIFA franchise.

As the last game under the moniker FIFA, this years instalment is already promising a huge array of ground-breaking features. Introducing a fictional football club from a hit TV show is yet another example of how this game could be the best one yet – with AFC Richmond sure to invite a huge crowd to enjoy the game.

We can only speculate to what capacity Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond will be in the game, so here is our prediction:

Is Ted Lasso playable on Career Mode?

As per our article on FIFA 23’s Career Mode, we know that in Manager Career you will be able to play as Guardiola, Moyes, and Gerrard, amongst other managers. Could we potentially be playing as Ted Lasso managing AFC Richmond in FIFA 23’s Career Mode?

When will we find out if Ted Lasso and AFC Richmond will be on FIFA 23?

FIFA 23 is released on 30th September, and Early Access launches three days before on the 27th. If there isn’t an official announcement, which there is likely to be, we’ll know only when Early Access launches.

The web app could potentially go live today at 6:00 BST, so we could also know then.
