Lucid Games has rocked up on the PlayStation Blog to unveil its latest project, a ‘high octane’ action game known as Switchblade. Despite sharing its name with something you might get shanked with down a dark alleyway, Switchblade is actually a vehicular combat romp with plenty going for it.

According to the studio, the title has a strategic heart beating at its centre, with gamers switching between an array of powerful vehicles as they battle it out in teams of five across various maps. Its creative director, Craig Howard, told the site that the team wants to ‘push the concept of vehicle combat games further than anything out there.’

The rules are simple enough: Both teams must disable towers by escorting exploding mobs to them, and can seamlessly switch between their chosen two vehicles during a match. Naturally, you’ll clash with the opposite team at some point along the line, which is where you’ll make use of your vehicle’s extensive array of weaponry.

Switchblade is a free-to-play title and you won’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription to get in on the competitive action. What’s more, Lucid Games is rolling out a closed beta on January 22 to give players a chance to take the game for a test drive before its planned launch towards the end of Q1 2018.

Looking ahead, the studio said that it plans to support the title with an array of fresh content, such as new vehicles, maps, and game modes. The developer also stressed that Switchblade is not going to be pay to win. Check out a trailer for the game below.
