Nintendo said that the Nintendo Switch has sold 41.67 million units worldwide as of September 30, 2019, and exceptional sales performances have been recorded from its first-party games (via Gematsu).
In Nintendo’s latest earning report, it announced that 4.8 million consoles were sold in the last three months before the end of September. Of these, the Switch Lite comprised 1.95 million of the total unit sales. The release of the new version helped out with these impressive numbers, as in its launch week, Japanese consumers bought 160,000 units of the Switch Lite. In addition, sales of the original Nintendo Switch increased by 12,000 units to 64,000 sold within that first week.
The report also mentioned the updated and incredible sales statistics for a collection of its first-party Switch games. Released in September, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening was the third Zelda title to snag the pole position in the UK physical sales chart. Now, Nintendo has said that the remake has sold 3.13 million units since its launch, scooting ahead of Fire Emblem: Three Houses that has shipped 2.29 million units since summer.
Super Mario Maker 2 is nearing four million units sold, and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe boasts 4.59 million sales which will likely rise sharply with its official release in China. Super Mario Odyssey and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are neck and neck with 15.38 million and 15.71 million sales respectively. But the game that has outstripped them all is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. It sits on top of the pile with 19.01 million sales, however, Pokémon Sword & Shield could dethrone the popular racing game.
Pokémon Sword & Shield is coming around the corner with a launch date of November 15. It’s considered to be the first core Pokémon title on a console, and the enthusiasm for the new game, new mechanics, and the new Galar region with unique Pokémon variants is off the charts. And, players may be tempted by the Zacian and Zamazenta edition of the Switch Lite, which would boost these awesome statistics as the year comes to a close.
Another Switch game comes out today, by the way. Josh has been playing Luigi’s Mansion 3 and it was a clean sweep. Like a familiar ghost, it might outstay its welcome a little, but there’s a silly slapstick charm to the third game that he couldn’t resist. Listen to Imogen and Josh chat about the physics-based, poltergeist pursuing Luigi’s Mansion 3 below.
