2023 sees the release of The Super Mario Bros movie which will see Mario, Luigi, Peach, and their constant enemy Bowser/King Koopa return to cinema screens worldwide for the first time in 30 years.
As the last attempt to bring everyone’s favourite gaming plumber and his world to the cinema screen with 1993’s live action, Super Mario Bros, starring Bob Hoskins, John Leguizamo, Samantha Mathis, and Dennis Hopper infamously became a commercial and critical disappointment upon release.
However, in contrast to that film’s distinctly dark and grungy industrial aesthetic, which marked a vast departure from the bright and colourful world of the Mushroom Kingdom that Mario fans knew and loved both before and following that movie. This latest attempt at bringing Mario to the big screen looks set to be exactly what fans have always wanted to see in a Super Mario movie.

Nintendo and Illumination have announced a special Nintendo Direct to take place later today for the world premiere debut of the second trailer for the movie, teasing that it will officially reveal the first footage of Princess Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy):

Speaking during a special after presentation panel exclusive to New York Comic Con ticket holders. Jack Black who plays Bowser in the upcoming movie, spoke at length about his love of the role, and some of the inspirations for his Bowser voice in the movie, explaining that he saw Bowser as being a Heavy Metal singer, and teased that there may even be some singing for Bowser in the movie too.
The panel then ended with the reveal that all of the panel’s attendees would be receiving an exclusive t-shirt for the movie with a shadowy silhouette of one of Bowser’s clawed hands on the front and the movie’s logo on the back.

Revealed exclusively and simultaneously during a panel at New York Comic Con 2022 and on a livestreamed Nintendo Direct on YouTube.
The presentation started with a chat with legendary Super Mario creator, Shigeru Miyamoto, followed by a chat with Illumination Entertainment CEO Chris Meledandri, before passing the presentation to the movie’s stars Chris Pratt and Jack Black as they described what an honour it is for them to voice Mario and Bowser respectively.
The presentation then moved back to Miyamoto who introduced the world exclusive first look at the movie with its first teaser trailer:

The movie is scheduled for release globally on 7th April 2023.
Where can I watch The Super Mario Bros Movie?
The movie is set to release, initially, exclusively in theatres, and then when its theatrical run has ended. It will see its home video release, which is also likely to include streaming on the Peacock streaming service.
