Konami has announced it’ll shut down battle royale free-to-play title Super Bomberman R Online at the end of the year.

The game originally launched as a Google Stadia exclusive back in 2020, and then came to other consoles and PC by May 2021. Super Bomberman R Online‘s default mode saw 64 players take each other on in a giant game of Bomberman. Players would play on a 16-tile arena, with tiles cut off as time ticked down until only one player remained.

However, in a message posted to the game’s website, Konami has announced the fuse on the game has run out. While not giving a specific reason, Konami say “various circumstances” as the reason for the game’s closure. The servers will be shut down on December 1, 2022 at 1:00 am UTC. The game made money through the sale of Bomber Coins and Premium Packs, and these are no longer on sale as of today. Anyone with unused Bomber Coins is asked to spend them before the game shuts down later this year.

As for the future of the Bomberman series, Konami offered the following. “The Bomberman series is moving forward with new projects. We hope to be able to inform you of this project soon.” In the meantime, Super Bomberman R Online players have just a few months left to play the game before its closure in December.
