Retail outfit Sports Direct has made a £51.9 million pound takeover bid for UK games retailer Game Digital, it has been announced today.

As reported by the BBC, the company Sports Direct International, which owns House of Frasier, French Connection and Debenhams to name a few, is offering a 30p per share bid to the company, but heavily implies that the company may suffer job losses if the deal goes through.

In remarks that it believes that Game Digital faces tough times ahead, the company said: 'Sports Direct believes that the offer, in providing Game with the wider benefit of Sports Direct's operating and other experience and increased support, will secure Game's future and allow it to navigate these pressures'.

Sports Direct originally bought 25.75% of the Game group back in 2017, this takeover bid being automatically triggered after it upped their stake to 38.5%.
