Bursting on to cinema screens in an explosion of colours, 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, brought Spider characters from across the multiverse together for the first time on the big screen.
Boasting an all star cast, the movie introduced audiences worldwide to young hero, Miles Morales, along with alternate universe versions of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy. With audiences being introduced to Gwen as the heroic Spider-Gwen/Ghost-Spider.
With the movie proving to be a huge success both critically and commercially for Sony Animation, it was only a matter of when, not if, a sequel would be greenlit. Especially, given the tantalising credits tease that revealed fan favourite Spider-Man comics character, Miguel O’Hara, the Spider-Man of 2099, voiced by none other than Hollywood superstar, Oscar Isaac.
Now, audiences have not one, but two, Spider-Verse sequels to look forward to in the near future. Beginning, with 2023’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the first in a planned two part story that will culminate with 2024’s Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.

Who is in the cast of Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse?
Shameik Moore returns as Miles Morales/Spider-Man
While the plot of the movie is still a closely guarded secret. We do know that Miles is going to be thrown into a universe spanning adventure, teased by the movie’s directors, to take in at least eight different universe’s, each with their own unique art style.
Hailee Steinfeld returns as Gwen Stacy/ Ghost-Spider
Standing out as one of Hollywood’s most exciting and interesting lead actresses. Hailee Steinfeld returns in Across the Spider-Verse as fan favourite character, Gwen Stacy. With the movie’s first teaser trailer showing Gwen crossing universes in order to visit Miles, before he gets pulled into their next adventure.
Oscar Isaac returns as Miguel O’Hara/Spider-Man 2099
Fulfilling the promise of Into the Spider-Verse‘s credits scene tease. Oscar Isaac plays a starring role in Across the Spider-Verse as fan favourite character Spider-Man 2099. With the first clips from the movie teasing Spider-Man 2099 seeking out Miles in order to get his help to protect the multiverse from a new threat.
Jake Johnson returns as Peter B. Parker/Spider-Man
Memorably portraying a Peter Parker who has found himself more downtrodden by life than Peter Parker usually is. Jake Johnson brought us a Spider-Man who was more world weary but no less heroic because of his experiences. Stepping up when needed to help and act as a mentor figure to Miles in Into the Spider-Verse as he took his first steps as a superhero.
Now, while he doesn’t appear in the movie’s first teaser trailer and no official art has been shown yet. Johnson has confirmed that he will be returning in Across the Spider-Verse as Peter B. Parker, with rumours persisting that he will be one of many Peter Parker’s…
Issa Rae joins as Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman
Comedian and actress, Issa Rae, joins the Spider-Verse as iconic Marvel Comics heroine, Spider-Woman. Little is known at the moment how Spider-Woman will play into the events of Across the Spider-Verse. But, it feels safe to assume that like, Spider-Man Noir before her, she will be called upon to help Miles, Miguel, and Gwen, in stopping the latest threat to the multiverse.
Daniel Kaluuya joins as Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown/Spider-Punk
Along with Issa Rae, MCU alum, Daniel Kaluuya (Black Panther) is the next Marvel Comics’ hero to join the cast of Across the Spider-Verse as Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown, better known to fans as Spider-Punk. And, exactly as his name implies, he wears a punk rock inspired Spider-Man costume, complete with spikes along the top of his mask.
Brian Tyree Henry returns as Jefferson Davis
However, Kaluuya, is not the only MCU alum in Across the Spider-Verse. As, Bryan Tyree Henry (The Eternals) returns as Mile’s father, Jefferson.
Luna Lauren Velez returns as Rio Morales
In addition, Luna Lauren Velez, reprises her role from Into the Spider-Verse as Mile’s mother, Rio.
Shea Whigham joins as George Stacy
Rounding out the announced cast playing the parents of our heroes, is Shea Whigham, another MCU alum, having memorably starred in the first season of Agent Carter. Joining the Spider-Verse as George Stacy, the father of Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy/Ghost-Spider.
Jason Schwartzman joins as Jonathan Ohnn/The Spot
The first of the announced villains for Across the Spider-Verse. Jason Schwartzman is set to play the villainous and highly dangerous supervillain, The Spot. Who has the ability to create inter-dimensional portals that allow him to travel great distances instantly. In addition to creating localised portals that can be used to confound and defeat his opponents.
Jorma Taccone joins as Adrian Toomes/The Vulture
Actor, writer, director, comedian, founding member of The Lonely Island. Jorma Taccone is a man with almost as many titles and skills as he has IMDB credits, and with Across the Spider-Verse, he gets to add another title to his resume.
As he is the only actor announced so far, who is both a returning star, but, who is playing a new character, but, is once more playing a villain.
Confusing, right? Well, the reason for this is that Taccone played iconic Spider-Man villain, The Green Goblin, in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. And now, in Across the Spider-Verse, he plays another iconic Spider-Man villain, Adrian Toomes/The Vulture.
