Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 is one of this year’s most satisfying games, thanks to its Gears of War-style third-person shooting and God of War-like execution system in close quarters combat. But Saber Interactive’s epic gore-filled title isn’t perfect, there are a handful of annoying features that need fixing.

One of the action title’s biggest issues is its ping system, a feature most players don’t bother to use since it can be visually confusing. This is an issue for multiplayer fans and trophy hunters since it’s not always clear if enemies are properly marked by the player, even if they think they’ve done it.

Technically, marking enemies with the ping system in Space Marine 2 is easy. Aim your gun at one of the many monsters you haven’t marked and press up on the controller or T on the keyboard. It sounds easy, but the game pings these enemies by highlighting them in red, which can be confusing since they can glow red when entering their execution state.

Space Marine 2 ping system changes

Like in God of War, players can execute enemies with a button press after dealing plenty of damage to them. While satisfying to pull off, this can be confusing when trying to mark enemies as you’ll hover the reticle at a foe and press the needed key too lightly. Even worse is that there’s no in-game glossary to see which enemies players have been able to ping in the game. Having an in-game index that allows you to see which enemies have been marked could make things a lot easier. This would make things infinitely easier for those trying to get the “Purge Them All” achievement.

It’s not just this me who sees the ping system as in need of some work, as other players have expressed their annoyance with Space Marine 2’s ping system in the game’s subreddit. One wrote: “…im always the only one in every game pinging enemies…. But the fact is that the red marker is the same red as the execution state of enemies, so people get confused by the same color.” Another added: “Ugh, I’ll be shooting at it with my sniper, see that it turned red and move on to the next target, only to later wonder why it’s still shooting at me,” wrote dapperfeller.

It’s not yet known if the devs at Saber Interactive will be fixing the ping system of Space Marine 2. The game does get updated every few weeks, due to its online multiplayer and upcoming DLC packs. If this does become a big enough issue, we wouldn’t be too surprised if Saber does finally improve the game’s ping system.
