Sony investigating save-corrupting PS4 error CE-34878-0

Sony is investigating a PlayStation 4 error causing some users’ save data to be corrupted, the platform holder has told Polygon.

Multiple users have reported issues with error ‘CE-34878-0’, which is is said to crash the console and corrupt save data. The error does not appear to be linked with any particular title, with players reporting problems while playing NBA 2K14, Battlefield 4, FIFA 14, Killzone: Shadow Fall, Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag and more.

“We are aware of the cases and we appreciate your patience while we investigate,” a Sony representative told Polygon.

Sony’s official support site states that the error code refers to an application that has crashed and advises players to follow a two step process:

Step 1: Close the application, install the latest system software and game update, and restart the system.

Step 2: If the error occurs again, back up your saved data, and then go to [Settings] > [Initialization] and choose [Initialize PS4].
