Sonic the Hedgehog is returning to television in his first-ever CG animated series in autumn 2014, SEGA has announced.

Described as a character-driven, action packed comedy series aimed at 6-11 year-olds, the show will be broadcast first on Cartoon Network in the US and CANAL J and GULLI in France, with a global rollout to follow.

An order of 52 eleven-minute episodes has been placed.

The series will feature Sonic and his best friend Tails as they battle with arch-nemesis Dr. Eggman. The series also features Knuckles, Amy Rose, and a host of enemies new and old.

The latest Sonic video game, Sonic: Lost World, will be released October 18 for Wii U and 3DS.
