Popular arcade scrapper Samurai Shodown is getting the reboot treatment on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One this summer, SNK has announced.

Titled simply Samurai Shodown, the game will feature completely overhauled 3D visuals while retaining the classic Manga look of the original franchise. The game takes place in the 18th century after the events of Samurai Shodown V, but is set before the events of the original game. Fans will probably be chuffed to learn that it'll feature 13 returning characters, too.

As for game modes, Samurai Shodown will feature all the usual suspects, such as Story, Practice, Online Battle, and more. New to the table is an asynchronous online Dojo mode, which you can use to create a Ghost AI character that is equipped with your moveset.

This can then be uploaded to the online leaderboards, where you can download another player's Ghost AI for some 1v1 fisticuffs or take on the Ironman Challenge, which sees you getting into a ruck with 100 other Ghost AIs.

SNK has confirmed that a Nintendo Switch version of Samurai Shodown will arrive in Q4 2019, with a PC release also on the cards at some point. The PS4 and Xbox One editions will arrive in June.
