Teased as part of Gamescom Opening Night Live, PUBG developer Krafton Inc. gave fans a closer look at its upcoming rival to Maxis’ The Sims, inZoi. Although the studio has yet to release a playable demo, let alone announce a release date, they did launch a character studio that lets you create ‘Zois,’ avatars that you get to use in the game—and it has somehow already broken into the Steam top 100 concurrent players chart.
As of this writing, the inZoi character studio is ranked 89 on Steam’s list, with 13,679 current players and a peak of 18,000+. Of course, Krafton initially releasing the game’s character studio as a demo isn’t unheard of. After all, other major games, like Capcom with Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Deep Silver with its 2022 Saints Row reboot, had similar strategies. However, neither of these games’ character creator demos reached the heights that inZoi already has.
Per SteamDB, the Dragon’s Dogma 2 Character Creator & Storage trial reached an all-time peak of 17,528 players, which is 1,000+ less than the inZoi: Character Studio’s current peak of 18,657. It’s also worth noting that since Krafton’s demo is only available for a limited time (it’ll only be up from August 21 to 26), it will likely continue to rise as more players try out the myriad customization options and lifelike avatar designs it offers.
Still, with no definitive release date yet, only time will tell if Krafton’s The Sims rival can live up to the early hype. But if you want to get an early feel of what inZoi will offer, its character creator provides just that, especially since the ‘Zois’ you make will remain and be “reusable after Early Access release” after you’ve uploaded it to ‘Canvas,’ the game’s UGC platform.
