After the fantastic Silent Hill 2 Remake, fans of Konami’s horror series are set to receive a brand-new entry in the franchise in the form of Silent Hill F.
Created by NeoBards Entertainment and written by Higurashi When They Cry author Ryukishi07, the upcoming horror game isn’t set in the series’ typical small-town America, but instead in Ebisugaoka, Japan during the 1960s.
Silent Hill F is for fans and newcomers alike
In a statement on Twitter, Konami explained that players of the upcoming Silent Hill game don’t need to be fans of the series to enjoy it. Just like Silent Hill 2, the game is a standalone story and players can treat this as an entry point into the horror franchise.
“This is a completely new work independent of the series,” Konami Japan told fans on social media. “Even those who have never played the “SILENT HILL” series can enjoy this game.”
The upcoming horror game continues the series’ typical psychological horror, this time focusing on the following topics: depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence.
Additionally, as a title set in 1960s Japan, Konami has explained that the game “contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time”.
There’s sadly still no release date scheduled for Silent Hill F at the time of writing. While the game is set to release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and PC simultaneously, unlike the last game, there’s not even a release period revealed.
However, considering Konami’s poor handling of the Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater release date, which was supposed to release last year, let’s just give them time to cook.
After a poor couple of decades for the horror series, including the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s reboot, Silent Hill is back with a vengeance. Bloober Team’s remake of the second game was not only a fantastic return to form, but also the series’ best-selling entry ever.
