Bluepoint Games’ remake of Shadow of the Colossus is a stunning technical achievement, more so when you consider this tantalizing new tidbit: The game runs on the same code as the original PS2 game from 2005.

Yep, not only has the developer managed to create what is unequivocally one of the prettiest games on PS4 to date, but it’s done so by only making ‘subtle improvements and bug fixes’ to the original code. Bluepoint highlighted this as one of the ‘key’ factors in maintaining ‘authenticity’ with Team ICO’s classic.

‘It was an honor to work on such a beloved game and we want to personally thank Ueda-san and the original Shadow of the Colossus team for all the great memories,’ said the team (via PSLS), describing the feat as a ‘testament to the technical prowess of the original developers.’

Shadow of the Colossus for PS4 launches worldwide on February 6. Bluepoint recently admitted that the remake has given the studio a ‘second chance‘ at the game following its 2012 remaster on PS3.
