RuneScape developer Jagex is introducing a microtransaction system to the game for the first time in the MMO’s history, Develop reports.
Users will now be able to pay to take additional turns on the recently implemented minigame Squeal of Fortune, which lets players spin a wheel to win various in-game prizes.
RuneScape is currently monetised through advertisement and small subscription costs.
Jagex raised monthly subscription costs to £4.95 from its initial £3.50 last February, likely to offset the cost for the development of new content promised throughout 2012.
