UPDATE – 03/10/2022 – Not long to wait now but will you actually be able to get your hands on the RTX 4090 from release?

Nvidia finally announced the RTX 40 series release date, set for the 12th of October, 2022. This launch date is just for the flagship RTX 4090, with the RTX 4080 SKUs coming to market in November.

RTX 40 series, code-named Ada Lovelace is set to improve on the already-impressive Nvidia RTX 30-series lineup by some margin, while also taking advantage of other advancements such as PCIe 5.0 and Ryzen 7000.

The previous launch was plagued with stock issues, it was no secret that demand way outstretched supply, something we could see again on a smaller scale.

Nvidia has a lot of 30 series cards sitting on shelves at the moment, some of which may end up as irresistible Black Friday GPU deals.

RTX 40 series release date confirmed for flagship

The RTX 40 series release date is set for the 12th of October 2022.

We will only see the new flagship model – the RTX 4090 – release in October, with the RTX 4080 16/12GB variants coming in November.

There was no mention of when we might see the RTX 4070, however, we think early 2023 is looking more and more likely.

Previous GPU microarchitecture releases have been:

  • Pascal (10 series) – May 2016
  • Turing (20/16 series) – September 2018
  • Ampere (30 series) – May 2020

As mentioned, we may only see the RTX 4090 on launch, a smart move that would maximize Nvidia’s revenue.

All three cards in question would be:

In another leak, Videocardz tells us the PCI ID device list of some of the RTX 40 cards. With the RTX 4090 supposedly with an ID of 2684. Whilst an AD104 (RTX 4070/60) will have an ID of 2785.

What time will the RTX 4090 release on 12th October?

The RTX 4090 release time is set for 2 PM BST/ 3 PM CEST/ 6:30 PM IST/ 9 AM EDT/ 8 AM CDT/ 6 AM PDT.

We’re looking forward to the upcoming launch of the RTX 4090, and we’re going to see some good stock levels hopefully. We can’t promise that you’re going to snag one – it’s going to be ridiculously competitive.

Will there be RTX 4090 stock on release?

We think that there’s going to be more RTX stock than we’ve seen in previous years, though it’s likely that we’re going to see this stock deplete very quickly as the product is officially launched.

What does the RTX 4080 12GB ‘unlaunch’ mean?

Essentially, following Nvidia’s weekend announcement that the RTX 4080 12GB edition is going to be unlaunched, we’re going to see much less stock of the RTX 4080 upon release, which means that prices are going to be gouged up easier, and we could be seeing a harrowing repeat of previous GPU launches.

The RTX 4080 12GB is a fantastic graphics card, but it’s not named right. Having two GPUs with the 4080 designation is confusing.

So, we’re pressing the “unlaunch” button on the 4080 12GB. The RTX 4080 16GB is amazing and on track to delight gamers everywhere on November 16th.

Nvidia

This is a disappointing move by Nvidia, as the 12GB edition of the 4080 would have been the cheapest entry point into top level GPUs.

What retailers will sell the RTX 40 series GPUs on release?

Generally speaking, every launch has gone on Amazon across many regions of the globe and it is more than likely to be the same once again.

Other retailers such as Best Buy will also stock the graphics cards, for those looking to shop in the US and Canada specifically.

For those in the UK and Europe, Amazon, Ebuyer, Scan, Overclockers, and many more should be selling Nvidia 4000 series cards.

Will Nvidias RTX 40 series release keep RDNA 3 at bay?

AMD’s next generation of graphics was teased at their recent Ryzen 7000 event but how will they compare?

Nvidia has a long history of beating AMD in terms of performance, with Team Red often catering to those on more of a budget.

Until we start seeing some concrete RDNA 3 specs, there is no real indication of how the two GPU giants will fare against each other.

Now officially announced, the RTX 40 series specifications look magnificent, with manageable power draw and significant performance gains on the RTX 30 series.
