Atari has revealed the first gameplay footage of RollerCoaster Tycoon World, the next outing in the popular theme park management series, and, well… it doesn’t seem to have gone down too well with fans.
Releasing on PC in mid 2015, the latest RollerCoaster Tycoon promises to let players “create the coolest and wildest coasters imaginable” using the “best track editor ever”, before uploading parks to the cloud to share with friends.
But fans of the series appear to have been left disappointed by the footage, with some claiming that 2005’s RollerCoaster Tycoon 3 actually looks better.
“The graphics are abysmal,” said one fan. “It looks like a mod of RCT3, which is OVER TEN YEARS OLD. I would have been disappointed if you have dumped these visuals on us in 2010, let alone 2015!”
“Dear Atari – Roller Coaster Tycoon resonated with people and was popular because the parks you made looked like real parks. Not some fantasy made-up world that isn’t grounded in any sort of reality,” added another. “You have every ability at your finger tips to potentially re-create the same experience that made the original Roller Coaster Tycoon series an overwhelming success.
“I encourage you to take a step back from the product you are making. Dig deeper into the original source material and come up with a game that reflects a real park, real rides, and actual scenarios that you could imagine happening in a present-day realistic environment.”
Kotaku, meanwhile, simply thinks the game “looks like s***”.
But what do you think? Are you still excited for the return or RollerCoaster Tycoon or are you disappointed by yesterday’s reveal? Let us know in the comments below.
