Of all the games, you wouldn’t expect rocket jumping to be something you can do in Tears of the Kingdom. However, players have discovered this gaming classic is indeed possible in the new game.

ICO Partners communications manager James Bartholomeou on Twitter appears to have discovered one method, which is sure to help players get Link to reach new places quickly and help with those Tears of the Kingdom speedrun times. While we don’t get to see the full process, it appears that James equips Link with a shield with a bomb attached to it. He then jumps onto the shield, riding it like a surfboard, and when it hits the ground the explosion propels our green hero up into the air.

Of course, this will lead to loads of potential possibilities – as long as you’re careful to not launch yourself off too high a surface before you get your hands on some kind of parachute unless you don’t mind succumbing to fall damage. But Link gets a decent amount of height from this trick – so it’s sure to cut down exploration times to make it to the mountaintops and the like, and it’ll be incredibly useful before Link eventually picks up the Ascend ability.

Despite only being the first day, players are finding all sorts of neat tricks in Tears of the Kingdom – including how to fall safely enough to skip to an early-game boss fight and plenty more – just as they did with Breath of the Wild when that launched back in 2017. We can expect plenty more where that came from too, as players get to grips with the game’s many nuances and cool ways to use Link’s new abilities like Fuse and Ultrahand.
