Capcom has announced that its blood-splattering remake of Resident Evil 2 has shipped three million copies worldwide since its launch on January 25.

The milestone is impressive, and tops Resident Evil 7: Biohazard's launch week shipments back in 2017, which managed 2.7 million copies. Furthermore, worldwide sales of Resident Evil have now eclipsed a massive 88 million globally since the series shambled into stores back in March 1996.

Resident Evil 2 takes the original 1998 survival horror epic and spruces it up completely for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. It looks stunning, sure, but there's also heaps of fresh content in there for veteran fans to appreciate, so it's not a simple retread of the PSOne original.

I thought it was a bloody marvellous effort, so go pick it up. Like, now. Stop reading this article. Well, okay, before you go and pick up your copy, have a look at some of the awesome references the game has.

Resi 2 topped the UK chart following its release on Friday, giving Capcom its best launch since Resi 7.
