PUBG studio Striking Distance has acquired former Call of Duty and Dead Space developers and three former Telltale Games artists to work on its new game (via Video Games Chronicle).

The California-based studio was first announced in July and is led by Glen Schofield, the founder of Sledgehammer Games. Striking Distance is developing an 'original narrative experience in the PUBG Universe', and with these new hires, the project seems to be hotting up.

LinkedIn profile updates showed that senior visual director Demetrius Leal and lead concept artist Jesse Lee have joined the team. Both Leal and Lee worked together on Call of Duty WWII, Advanced Warfare, Modern Warfare 3 and Dead Space. Given their portfolios, they’ve probably been brought on to make things go bang but in a really pretty way in the PUBG universe. And possibly for a work reunion do, because Striking Distance also snapped up Steve Papoutsis and Christopher Stone. Papoutsis led the development of the Dead Space series, and Stone was the cheif creative officer for Dead Space and those Call of Duty titles.

Telltale Games talent will join the fray too. Senior concept artist Robin Chyo, senior environment artist Aasim Zubair, and concept artist Zhuosi Xu all worked on The Walking Dead game, as well as other varying Telltale Games titles. Maybe they’ve been consulted for their copious crafting of corpses. There can be only one chicken dinner, after all.

Back in July, Schofield said, ‘As a creative, the freedom to explore the PUBG universe has me excited about the possibilities, which we view as beyond battle royale, and I’m excited for the next step, which is finding the right people to join us on this journey.’ With friends like these, the new PUBG spinoff is in good hands.
