Unnamed VG247 sources have claimed that Sony will announce the PSP2 on January 27 at a “business overview and strategy meeting” in Tokyo.
According to the report only “very select press” will be in attendance.
VG247 also calls the “business overview and strategy meeting” a showcase, suggesting we’ll hear and see quite a lot about the handheld and its games.
MCV is also backing the January 27 reveal and is promising lots more info – some of which will be a “huge surprise” – on the new platform in this week’s edition of MCV. Expect that on Thursday morning.
Sony has declined to comment.
A late January announcement would give Sony the opportunity to one-up Nintendo’s late February launch of the 3DS in Japan. This would depend on the hardware and its line-up impressing, however.
