SCEA president Jack Tretton has described PlayStation 4’s production yields as being “phenomenal”, suggesting Sony is well on track to supply a healthy amount of PS4 stock come November.

Talking to Fox, Tretton described PS4 as being “far and away the most powerful console ever created. It is the crown jewel in what has been a tremendous road for us since the debut of the original PlayStation here back in September 95, so we’re so excited for November 15. It’s going to be the biggest launch in history.”

Tretton also confirmed earlier rumours that Sony would be holding back stock to ensure consumers can walk into a store on launch day and buy a PS4.

“We want to make sure that consumers have an opportunity to buy one on November 15 and through the holidays,” he continued, “so we’re holding back some inventory to make sure that people have an opportunity to buy one that come in on launch day.

“But we can pre-sell every unit we can manufacture and the good news, production yields have been phenomenal, so this will be by a magnitude of a lot the biggest launch we’ve ever had.”

PlayStation 4 launches in the US on November 15 and in the UK on November 29. Over 1 million units have already been pre-ordered.
