Sony has confirmed in its latest financial results that PlayStation 4 has shipped 94.2 million units worldwide as of December 31, 2018.

Despite being five-years-old, which is roughly the shelf life of an X Factor boyband, PS4 is still going strong, with 8.1 million units moved during the third financial quarter. It's down 0.9 million from the same period last year, but at this point things will be slowing down a bit.

Elsewhere, Sony revealed that PlayStation Plus memberships are on the rise, reaching 36.3 million subscribers – an increase of 2.1 million on the previous year.

Looking ahead, the format holder still intends on shipping a total of 17.5 million PS4s by the end of the 2018 fiscal year, which wraps on March 31.
