Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has announced PlayTV, software and hardware which will transform the PlayStation 3 into a Personal Video Recorder. PlayTV will be available in UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain early in 2008.

With the addition of the PlayTV software and the PlayTV digital tuner, the PS3 will have the ability to record one program while watching another, record an entire series, and watch programmes on the go via remote play on the PSP.

Additionally PlayTV is high definition ready, features an electronic programme guide with a seven-day interface and can operate using the Sixaxis controller or the PS3’s Blue-ray Remote. Sony is also promising more features in future updates.

No price point has been announced at this time, but expect more to be revealed as its release approaches.
