Unfortunately, as with every month, PlayStation is set to add more games to their subscription service but at the expense of several games leaving. Sony has confirmed 12 games are leaving PS Plus in September 2024, and this includes a horror masterpiece that has just seen an increase of over 120% players. One of PlayStation’s best console exclusives is set to leave PS Plus next month, too.
There is a lot to anticipate in September. There’s the release date for The Casting of Frank Stone along with Epic Mickey Rebrushed, bringing the first game in the underrated Epic Mickey series to PlayStation for the very first time. There is also the release date for Astro Bot, and rumors suggest there will be a PlayStation Showcase.
All of the above releases are exciting, but September 2024 is also a big month for PS Plus. Some great games are confirmed to be joining Essential and Extra, but the sad news is that some amazing experiences are leaving.
PS Plus games leaving in September 2024
Sony has confirmed two day one releases joining PS Plus in September 2024, and they have now confirmed the following 12 games set to leave Extra:
- Alien Isolation
- Horizon Forbidden West
- Marvel’s Midnight Suns
- Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
- Nier Replicant
- Spiritfarer
- Cloudpunk
- Star Ocean The Divine Force
- Star Ocean The Intergrity and Faithlessness
- Star Ocean The Last Hope
- Star Ocean Till The End of Time
- Star Ocean First Departure R
All of the above are set to leave on September 17th. Looking at the above list, it’s a devastating month if you’re a fan of the Star Ocean series, but the biggest departures are arguably Horizon Forbidden West, Alien Isolation, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, and Nier Replicant.
Starting with Alien Isolation, it’s an absolute horror masterpiece. Unbelievably, it’s nearly ten years old, and it’s still one of the best horror games ever made. The excellent Alien Romulus movie has just hit cinemas, and, according to Truetrophies, this has resulted in an increase of 122.03% players for Alien Isolation on PS4 and PS5.
It’s also sad to see the departure of Horizon Forbidden West. The sequel to Zero Dawn is absolutely gorgeous, and it’s one of PlayStation’s best console exclusives. We have the release date for LEGO Horizon Adventures to anticipate later this year, but for now the departure of Forbidden West is sad.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is also a fantastic and sorely underappreciated turn-based RPG from the folks responsible for XCOM, and Nier Replicant is an excellent remake of a great game that ultimately paved the way for the beloved Nier Automata.
In other PlayStation news, more Xbox exclusives are set to come to PS5.
